Denon DJ Prime 2 Review

Denon has released the DJ Prime 2 at the same time as the Prime GO in its line of standalone DJ systems. It is also a slight step down from the DJ Prime 4. In this review Denon DJ Prime 2 review, we will examine all the bells and whistles that come with the DJ Prime 2.

Since the release of its award-winning MCX8000, Denon has been at the forefront of DJ hardware technology. Some of our other favorite Denon controllers include the Denon DJ Prime 4 and the Denon DJ Prime GO.

The DJ Prime is a slightly cut-down version of the DJ Prime 4 but still retains a majority of the features and capabilities. The biggest difference between the two systems is in the number of channels.

Denon DJ Prime 2 Review Summary

Quality

The built quality of the DJ Prime 2 is similar to the DJ Prime 4. It has a beautiful metal finish and feels robust and professional. The screen however is smaller and is in a fixed position unlike the Prime 4 where you could tilt the screen. Everything from the knobs to the faders and jog wheels feels comfortable and durable, something that is standard Denon’s DJ products.

Features

The DJ Prime 2 is a two-channel standalone DJ system. It features a 7-inch HD screen that is multitouch and allows you full control of your entire music library. There are 8 ultra-responsive trigger pads that perform a variety of functions. The DJ Prime 2 also features WiFi streaming where you can access Tidal and other various streaming platforms as long you stay connected.

Cost

Despite having a much more impressive technology, the DJ Prime 2 is less expensive than its closest competitor, the Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX2. Considering the build quality, the features and the proven track record of Denon, this is a great price for the DJ Prime 2. However, many people who are just starting out might still see this to be too expensive

Overall rating of the Denon DJ Prime 2:  3.83 / 5

The DJ Prime 2 is one of the best standalone 2-channel DJ systems that you can find in the market today. It is reasonably priced considering all its features and capabilities. It is not easy to find a standalone controller that is affordable, making this a good option to consider.
