The XDJ-RX2 is the successor of Pioneer’s highly successfully XDJ-RX. It XDJ-RX2 inherits many features and traits from the flagship NXS2 series. 

The XDJ-R2 is a two-deck, 2-channel all-in-one system that delivers a great DJ experience at a professional level. Since it is a standalone system, it does not require a laptop and can play directly from a USB device

Quality

The XDJ-RX2 has a solid all-plastic enclosure and is has a heavy weight. The jog wheels are the same size as the original version and they are just as slick and responsive like all other Pioneer DJ controllers. The performance pads are made of rubber and lit with an LED backlight. When it comes to Pioneer, you know that you will always get a good quality product.

Features

The most glaring new feature in the XDJ-RX2 is the addition of 4 extra performance pads on each side of the mixer. The screen on the XDJ-RX2 has also received a touch upgrade which means you can now use the QWERTY keyboard to look for tracks saving you lots of time. It has a two-channel mixer with a three-way switching matrix for three inputs: laptop, line, and phono. Additionally, it also features twin USB sockets in which you can load your music library.

Cost

The cost for the XDJ-RX2 can be seen as pricey to some and as affordable to others. It entirely depends on your current needs and requirements. If you are someone who prefers using a laptop and a controller, the XDJ-RX2 might not be for you. However, the XDJ-RX2 is a great option for someone who has aspirations to go to festivals and clubs but not willing to spend big bucks on a CDJ/DJM set.

However, if you are someone who is currently using the previous version of the XDJ, there might not be enough incentive to make that upgrade.

However, compared to how revolutionary the previous version was, the XDJ-RX2 is slightly underwhelming in terms of improvements and features. Another negative point is that it is not compatible with Rekordbox DVS which means that you will not be able to spin timecode CDJs or vinyl.

The XDJ-RX2 has a large 7-inch, full-color touch screen that provides you with a quick visual reference during mixes. The Wave Zoom feature gives you details on track peaks and breakdowns. Pro DJ Features

The XDJ-RX2 comes with Pro DJ features that allow you to perform with precision. You can create smooth mixes with EQs and also have access to channel faders that feature curves equivalent to those on the DJM-900NXS2 professional club mixer. The XDR-RX2 also inherits the Sound Color FX and Beat FX giving you the ability to express your creative side.

Multi-Colored Performance Pads

There are 8 large, multi-colored tactile performance pads that are present on each deck. These performance pads give you easy access to features like Hot Cues, Beat Loop, Slip Loop, and Beat Jump. Bright and easy to understand, these performance pads will help you bring out your best performance.

Link Export for Rekordbox

You can connect your laptop directly to the XDJ-R2 and import your tracks to rekordbox using the Link Export USB connection. This makes is highly convenient as you can play your prepared tracks without needing to export them to a USB device.

You have an option to choose between an XLR connection and the ¼ TRS jack connection with the XDJ-RX2.

The Pioneer XDJ-RX2 is no doubt a powerful all-in-one system with impressive capabilities. It is most suitable for DJs who aspire to play at clubs, festivals, or tours but are on a limited budget. 

The XDJ-RX2 is the closest you can come to a CDJ/DJM set at only the fraction of the price. However, if you prefer playing with a laptop or a tablet, you are better off with a mid-tier controller where you can spend the savings you get on something else.
